Rochester Rhinos vs. California Victory
Date/time: Saturday, May 12th, 2007 10:00 pm EDT Location: Kezar Stadium, San Francisco CA Weather: Fair, 54 Attendance: 1,017 The Rochester Raging Rhinos will kick-off a four-game, nine-day West Coast swing on Saturday, May 12th with a 10:00 p.m. EST contest against the expansion California Victory at Kezar Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on WYSL 1040AM, wysl1040.com and USL Live. With a 1-1-2 record and four points, the Rhinos stand fifth in the USL First Division standings. Rochester has earned 1-1 draws in its last two contests. In both matches, the Rhinos fell behind within the first 10 minutes, only to net second-half goals to knot the score at one goal apiece. The Rhinos have scored one goal in each of their first four games of the season, with all four tallies coming from different players. Two of the goals have come off the feet of defenders. Interim team captain and defender Kenney Bertz scored the game-winner in Rochester's 1-0 win over Miami FC on April 15th. On May 4th, Rhinos backfield patrolman Scott Palguta scored the equalizer in the Rhinos' 1-1 draw with Vancouver. Midfielder Johnny Menyongar and forward Hamed Diallo have also found the back of the net for the Rhinos. Saturday's contest will be the Victory's second regular season match in the franchise's young history. The San Francisco-based team earned a respectable result in its first match as it ground out a 2-2 tie with the defending USL First Division Champion Vancouver Whitecaps. Joshua Hansen and Michael Munoz combined for Victory's pair of goals, while goalkeeper Dominick Jakubek made four saves and faced 15 shots. The Rhinos will play the third game of their five-game road trip against the former Rhinos Neil Dombrowski and Chris Bagley, and the Portland Timbers on Sunday, May 13th. The 6:00 p.m. EST contest will be broadcast live on WYSL 1040AM, wysl1040.com and USL Live. After a successful surgery on Tuesday, May 8th to repair his right bicep tendon, Rhinos Team Captain Scott Vallow returned to the team on May 10th to watch training before the team headed off for their West Coast trip. "The surgery went well and I feel great," said the veteran goalkeeper. "It's good to be back with the team and I'm looking forward to starting rehab and getting back on the field. "Thank you to my strong support staff which includes my friends and family, the entire Rhinos organization and our awesome fans."
