Rhinos Win 2-0 At Austin With Strong Defensive Effort

(Austin, TX)�..The Rhinos traveled to Austin to face the Aztex looking to rebound from a four-game winless streak in the USL-1 and pulled out a 2-0 win Sunday night, courtesy of goals by midfielder Kwame Sarkodie and defender Brent Sancho. The win improves their record to 5-5-2 (17 points), while the Aztex drop to 2-6-5 (11 points).

Although Austin enjoyed much of the possession in the match, the Rhinos would strike first. Defender John Ball beat a defender down his sideline and played a cross into the box. The ball would find Sarkodie, who was wide open at the back post and was able to take his time to put the ball into the net from seven yards out. His first goal of the year put Rochester up 1-0 in the 21st minute.

The Rhinos were outshot 5-2 in the first half, but defended well to go into the half-time break with a one-goal lead.

Heading into the second half Austin looked to press the Rhinos into their own end of the field, and that they did. But Rochester was up to the task, stifling every Aztex opportunity. Goalkeeper Tim Melia made a save on Aztex forward Eddie Johnson�s shot in the 73rd minute to preserve his team�s lead and continued to show consistency in net for the duration of the match.� For Melia, it was his third shutout in three starts this season.�

Rochester would put the game away in the 87th minute when Sancho made a run out of the back, ran onto a cross and one-timed a low shot into the net. His first goal of the year came just two minutes after coming on as a substitute.

The Rhinos continue USL-1 action next Saturday night at 8:35 p.m., when they will travel to Minnesota to face the Thunder.
