For the second consecutive season, the Rochester Rhinos opened the Capelli Sport Stadium gates to host the City of Rochester JOSANA Neighborhood Outreach event on Monday night.
The event was free to all neighborhood residents, plus attendees received complimentary Rhinos tickets to a future home game courtesy of the Rhinos Cares Program. Rhinos corporate partners Canandaigua National Bank, Fidelis Care, STOP DWI, and Foodlink were in attendance providing additional support.
"This event served as an excellent opportunity to show off our Curbside Market vehicle and teach JOSANA residents how Foodlink delivers healthy, affordable produce into underserved neighborhoods that may lack access to fresh fruits and vegetables," stated Mark Dwyer of Foodlink, "It was also great to see our partners at Eat Smart New York on hand, passing along valuable nutrition education tips on sugary drinks and ways to stay healthy. We want JOSANA to be a strong, vibrant community and that all starts with a healthy diet for every one of its residents.”
The evening was an opportunity for JOSANA residents to learn more about resources available to them to help build a stronger sense of community. The Charles Settlement House also brought over 15 local companies and organizations to the event who provide support services.
"It was a great opportunity to give back to the community here with the local kids," said Rhinos midfielder Stefan Defregger, "We're all kids at heart, we like to play dodgeball and wiffleball just as much as they do."
The Rhinos play in the US Open Cup on Wednesday, May 17th at 7 pm against FC Motown (New Jersey). Tickets are just $8 and are available online, at the box office, or by calling 585-454-KICK!
