The Rochester Rhinos announce the signing of Julian Büscher from D.C. United for the remainder of the 2017 USL season, pending league and USSF approval.
Büscher was selected 11th overall in the first round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft after playing two seasons collegiately at Syracuse University.
Büscher started two matches in 2017, including the season-opener for D.C. United this season and has made 4 appearances off the bench. Büscher scored 2 goals and had 2 assists in D.C. United’s 4-1 US Open Cup victory over Maryland amateur side Christos FC this season.
In 2016, Büscher came off the bench scored in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals against Mexican-side Quetetaro in a 3-1 aggregate loss. Büscher then would make 20 appearances; including 3 starts for D.C. on the year, scoring a goal and contributing four assists in 583 minutes of match action.
Büscher helped lead the Orange to their first College Cup Final Four in the program’s 92-year history in 2015, starting all 25 matches and scoring 8 goals and racking up 11 assists. Büscher was named to the College Soccer News’ All-America First Team, the TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI, the All-ACC First Team and ACC All-Tournament Team in addition to being a MAC Hermann Award semifinalist - the award given to the best collegiate soccer player in the country.
In 2014 he started 20 matches and contributed 6 assists while making the All-ACC Second Team in addition to the ACC All-Freshman Team.
Prior to arriving at Syracuse, Büscher represented Germany on the U-16 and U-18 national teams. He played on the VFL Bochum, Preussen Muenster and Sportfreunde Lotte at the youth level and was named the top midfielder in the U-19 Bundeliga in the 2011-12 season.
Büscher is the first player in Syracuse history to sign a Generation Adidas contract with MLS. He briefly played on USL-PDL club K-W United FC in 2015.
Büscher will join the team on the practice field tomorrow.
